The World of Art
One of the reasons that I went into teaching was because it was a career in which I could be creative. A classroom can be such a comfortable, active, and inspiring environment if it is decorated tastefully and displays student-made work. Nonetheless, art should be incorporated into the curriculum as much as possible. Classes that combine different subjects in the same class are great for activating different parts of the brain at the same time and give great learning experiences.
Lots of kids love art classes, but others are more interested in other subjects or aspects in school life. I believe that if art is taught in a passionate way, the class will be excited for the projects given. Children can be very imaginative and creative (without boundaries that many of us gain over time). I have worked with children as young as five years old before and was very impressed with the results of their work.
Art doesn't have to be taught in the traditional fine arts lesson that seems to be so popular among teachers these days. Not every school provides music or drama classes, but a gross majority have multimedia labs. Kids are very keen to use computers in this day and age and computer-art classes can be very fun and productive for them. I think it's a good idea to combine a variety of as many kinds of media as possible into your curriculum. Below is an Inspiration image that I made to convey an idea of the many branches of art. Unfortunately, this form of teaching is often neglected since education plans are very keen to teach math and other left-brained activities.
